These past sermons have revealed that wisdom is needed. Your mom may have been a great source of that wisdom or possibly a sister, grandmother, aunt, or an acquaintance. When we mention mothers we are referencing moms but also the spirit of motherhood.
Despite the huge amount of work that mothers do, very often all their hard work is not appreciated, and it might become a thankless job.
Moreover, mothers can be tempted to conform to the world’s view of perfection in life. For instance:
The Perfect Appearance
The Perfect Pinterest Home
The Perfect Kids
The Perfect Relationship
The Perfect Career
However, where the world sees success, God sees failure.
“God’s recipe for success is listening to His voice. ”
Proverbs 8 is a good place to see what wisdom is for God.
A Better Understanding Of God: Both genders display God’s attributes
“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them” – Genesis 1:27
“Then the LORD God said, “It is not good that a man should be alone: I will make him a helper fit for him.” – Genesis 2:18
In fact, the first time we see God declaring something to be “not good” is when Adam finds himself alone in the Garden.
A Better Understanding Of God: Seeing God’s attributes through women
God comforts his people like a mother comforts her child (Isaiah 66)
We read, like a woman would never forget her nursing child, God will not forget his children (Isaiah 49)
God is like a mother eagle hovering over her young (Deuteronomy 32)
God seeks the lost like a woman, trying to find her lost coin (Luke 15)
God cares for his people like a midwife that cares for the child she just delivered (Psalm 22)
God defends us like a bear robbed of her cubs (Hosea 13)
Jesus longs to gather the people of Jerusalem, like a mother hen longs to gather her chicks under her wings (Luke 13)
We frequently do not make the best choices when we are picking what we consider to be the best. Our mothers guide us using a much longer trajectory based on years of data as opposed to our “live for the moment” data point in time.
We want to thank all our mothers for their hard work, for raising us in the way they did, for giving us the best they could, for being there with us in all the times, for caring after us and being near in the times when we were far.
“ Thank you mothers! We truly appreciate every single effort you do! We love you! ”
